Lance Torgerson – Owner
Lance became the majority owner of Vantage Living Inc. in August of 2015. He is also the founder/owner of Noralta Lodge, a remote workforce accommodations supplier, based in Western Canada.
Born and raised in Northern Alberta and now residing in Kelowna BC, Lance is very well connected throughout Western Canada and has strong family roots in both provinces. He attended the University of Calgary and graduated from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) with a Business Administration in Management degree. He was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 Prairies Award for Energy, Privately Held, as well as the NAIT 2013 Alumni Award of Distinction. He is also the youngest town councilor in the history of Slave Lake. Prior to starting up Noralta Lodge, Lance owned and operated a number of successful business ventures.
In his role as Chairman of Vantage Living Inc., Lance has developed strong relationships with key stakeholders. With his extensive business acumen and a keen understanding of the needs of individuals in his care, he has managed to set a bold vision that positions the company for growth.
Melanie Reinhardt – President
Melanie is motivated by a passion for quality seniors care. Joining the Vantage Living team in late 2017, Melanie brings strategic vision, strong leadership skills and a commitment to quality which have been developed and refined through more than a decade of industry experience. The Vantage Living culture of excellence is well aligned with Melanie’s personal attributes. Opportunity, innovation and “doing it right” are philosophies that Melanie brings to the team as she challenges them to provide only the highest quality services and to ensure the comfort of the residents we serve.
Relationships are key. In order to develop this aspect, Melanie regularly visits all Vantage Living sites to meet our residents face to face and to learn more about their personal experience in a Vantage community first hand.
Residing in the Okanagan, Melanie is a proud mom of 4. She enjoys spending her spare time on the tennis courts and cheering on the hockey teams.
Undergraduate studies in political science have helped form her strategic vision and have aided in the development of tools which are enhanced by certifications with IAP2 (International Association of Public Participation) and Procurement and Contract Management.
Johann Burger – Board Chair
After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand in his native South Africa, Johann spent a number of years in the fashion industry with a successful national retailer before being appointed to the position of CEO with Sportshoe Adidas, the local manufacture of the international brand, Adidas.
Johann immigrated to Canada in 1994 and up until 2004, he served in various executive positions in the natural foods industry. In 2005 he ventured into property development where he was responsible for overseeing administration, project management, financing and investor relations for a corporation that was developing high-end single and multi-family residences.
Johann joined Vantage Living in 2008 as a member of the Board of Directors where he was responsible for advising on project development, financial management and investor relation activities in support of Vantage Living’s industry re-positioning and growth strategy. In 2011 Johann became a shareholder and assumed the role of Vice President of Business Development.
Johann acted as interim President of the company from March 2016 to November 2017. During this time, he set the overall vision and strategic direction of the company, in addition to overseeing and collaborating with construction management and architectural teams to design and develop new seniors housing and care properties.
In November 2017 Johann will transition into his new role as Board Chair where he will be responsible for special projects involving property development and business acquisitions.
Darlene Haslock – Chief Operating Officer
Darlene has over 30 years of experience in operations working for large corporations from retail to technology. Darlene joined Vantage Living in 2008; initially managing several sites as they transitioned from opening and/or closing. In July 2009 she moved into a permanent role as Community Administrator at Brandt’s Creek Mews.
Over the years, Darlene has been responsible for pre-commissioning, operations planning, equipment/supply procurement, training managers/employees, Environmental Health and Licensing permitting and commissioning activities surrounding the opening of 5 of our residences:
- Eagle Valley Manor (2008)
- Brandt’s Creek Mews (2009)
- Mount Ida Mews (2012)
- Monashee Mews (2013)
- Lakeside Manor – Phase II (2016)
Darlene moved into her current role as Chief Operating Officer in May 2013. As an experienced administrative manager with strong communication skills, business administration, human resources and information technology skills, she oversees the operations at each of our Vantage Living communities.
Keri Girard – Chief Financial Officer
Keri is a Certified General Accountant. She joined Vantage Living after spending several years in the natural foods industry. Keri is primarily responsible for providing operational and financial support to the company, which includes all financial communication, reporting to provincial health authorities, financial institutions/corporations and independent investors.
Keri has extensive experience in financial analysis, budgetary planning and cost management in both health services and property development. She has developed tools and financial models that provide critical operational/financial advice and direction to the Board of Directors. Keri is highly skilled in financial reporting, job costing, inventory management, payroll and development of internal controls. Throughout her financial management career, Keri has acted in a leadership role on numerous financial & government audits.
Along with her specific accounting experience, Keri also has considerable knowledge and experience in the selection, implementation and ongoing administration of various information technologies. She continues to broaden this skill set by overseeing the company’s ERP and Payroll systems, our computer and networking systems and by providing training and support to all departments.
Todd Mallen – Director of Resident Services
Todd is a graduate of Hospitality Management. Having worked within the Hotel & Resort & Senior Care industry for over 30 years, Todd has an extensive background in hospitality.
Todd has worked with several full service resort companies in the capacity of Resort Manager and Director of Operations. In these roles, his responsibilities included overall resort management, financial success, and guest satisfaction. Todd has also served as a board member for both the Kelowna Motel & Hotel Association and Destination Osoyoos.
Todd joined Vantage Living in July 2009, working at Brandt’s Creek Mews as Hospitality Services Manager until December 2009 . Todd rejoined Vantage Living in January 2012 as the Community Administrator at Brandt’s Creek Mews.
In his current role as Director of Resident Services with Vantage Living, Todd is responsible to coordinate, develop, revise and evaluate hospitality services and building services at each Vantage Living retirement community. Todd enjoys learning about the motivations of others, coaching and leading, and most of all, helping others.
Judy Meikle – Human Resources Manager
Judy has held previous roles at various levels in the HR Departments within companies of varying sizes. From the BC Ministry of Attorney General to BC Public Service Agency to Walmart Canada, as a District Human Resources Manager for over 6 years.
At Vantage Living Inc. Judy is responsible for leading the development and implementation of short and long term Human Resources strategies designed to improve Recruitment, Performance Management, Learning, Benefits and HR Administration. Judy also provides professional support to Site Leaders to address Employee/Labour Relations issues, responding to grievances, providing advice on the development of personal improvement plans and company disciplinary process.
Additionally, Judy supports work site programs and activities to ensure due diligence and compliance of WorkSafe Regulations in BC and Alberta, and manages workplace and non-occupational absences with a focus on early return and stay at work strategies to support the employee and work sites.
